Boost Your Brain

Yesterday marked the first time in 3 years that I’d been inside any church.

I was honouring an invitation by my friend, Pastor Ferdy Adimefe at The Tribe Nation, Lagos, to speak on "Creating the Future".

Yes, Yes. I'm in Lagos at the moment. More on that later.

My cute self at Sunday Service. Peep that shoe game.

Just before the sermon, I noticed that congregants were guided through a meditation session.

I don’t mean the vague ‘meditating on the word of God’ ritual.

An actual expert-led, calming, mindful, guided meditation.

I was mightily impressed that a Nigerian church (or any church) would entertain such an idea, and I made sure to pay them the compliment when I took the podium.

One of my talking points that seemed to resonate was concerning the miracle of the human brain.

And indeed, there is so much the human brain is able to achieve if only we knew the right techniques for unlocking its full potential.

Other than meditation, I’ll share a few of these techniques that have transformed my allround mental clarity and productivity.

1. Breathwork: This is typically used to ease stress, but I found a powerful technique called Yogic Coffee that will give you an immediate burst of energy and alertness whenever you’re feeling slow and lethargic.

Watch this video and follow along, then let me know how you feel right after.

Trust me, it's magic.

2. Journaling: This is one of those cool words that many people use but seldom ever practice.

It has multiple benefits including reducing stress and anxiety, opening up your streams of creativity and achieving mental clarity.

Here’s an amazing 10 minute practical intro to the practice.

It will change your life.

3. Tapping: You’re going to look hella weird doing this but I promise it works like magic. I know I say 'magic' a lot, but only because it's true.

Pinky promise.

Its technical name is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), a practice of using your fingers to tap specific points on your body while focusing on an issue you are trying to resolve.

You can get this to work in just 5 minutes.

Watch this video to try it out.

Try numbers 1 & 3 and let me know how you feel.

I’m focusing on them because you can get the benefits instantly.

Number 2 (journaling) is also great but may need some more time for its benefits to unravel.

Last Saturday's Night School

In other news, Night School returned on Saturday Night with “The Game of Life” series.

This was the first time we moved away from streaming on Youtube to broadcasting on Zoom.

We quickly maxed out the 1,000 participant capacity either because the topic is YUGE or y'all just wanted to see my new hairstyle...

Women steal my looks all the time 🙄

It's true.

Anyway, our focus was on Wisdom Notes from The Game of Chess.

I did announce that there would be no replays, so no luck there.

- Here’s a written summary by Chioma Nnanna (on Facebook).

- I also noticed that Olivia Onosike makes short videos summarizing some Night School episodes. Check out her Instagram and see if she has summarized last Saturday’s episode.

So, about my Lagos visit...

As announced live on Saturday, we will be holding Night School Lagos on the 25th of March, 2023.

Details will be communicated shortly including volunteering and partnership opportunities.

Talk Soon,
